On Saturday, July 18th Boys Hope Girls Hope scholars and Community Associates Board members participated in a mixer at Yerba Buena Bowling Center in the SOMA district of beautiful San Francisco. The turnout was fantastic, the competition was stiff and before we knew it we had spent two hours getting to know one another over lunch and a game of bowling. The venue was perfect as it allowed the scholars and CAB members an opportunity to mingle over a little friendly competition. It was great to see a few familiar faces like Michelle and Eric who are starting 9th grade very soon and to hear about their summer. It was also a pleasure to meet a few new scholars that were recently admitted to BHGH, including Anayssa and Brennen.
Not surprisingly, the top scores were from the scholars. Anayssa and Edward each got at least a few strikes. Kevin, our Community Resource Coordinator, also had a really impressive game. For lunch we all shared nachos and chicken strips and got a chance to learn a little bit about each other while waiting our turn to bowl. I got a lesson on Snapchat as well as Pokeman Go, which I am slowly but surely getting better at. It was great to see how many participants showed up despite busy summer schedules.
Before we knew it we had finished our games and tallied up the totals. Parents and siblings came to pick up the scholars and it was the perfect way to spend a summer day in San Francisco. We concluded the mixer by snapping a few shots of the happy and full group. Jenny and Diya, both members of CAB, expressed what a blast they had and what a fun and successful event this turned out to be. Many thanks for everyone involved in planning and coordinating this event including Perry, Kevin, Diya and Suzanne and to everyone who came out for the day.
