Boys Hope Girls Hope was founded by Father Paul Sheridan, S.J., in St. Louis, Missouri in 1977 on the belief that, given better circumstances, children with potential can reach their potential. Boys Hope Girls Hope is currently serving children in 40 homes in 15 U.S. cities and four foreign countries (Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru).

Boys Hope Girls Hope of San Francisco Bay Area, an Affiliate of the National Organization, was established in 2000 and, while following the policies and guidelines of the national BHGH model, operates as a separate 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we are responsible for our own fundraising, program, staff development, and outreach. Boys Hope Girls Hope of San Francisco Bay Area is governed by a Board of Directors that reflects the social, cultural and spiritual diversity of the San Francisco Bay Area.
